Levi Got His Moose!

October 3rd, 2026 Newsletter

Join Us At Moose Camp!

Welcome back to remote Alaska, where the moose outnumber the people and Levi finally got his big branch bull! Shortly after we processed Bob's spike fork bull, the guys went back out on the boat for more hunting. This time, Levi wanted to wait for a wall-hanger. The freezer was full so it was the best time!

Oh No Blooooopers

Again, I don't have any bloopers! If you watched this week's video, you know the guys said about 10 words in the whole hour and even then, they were whispered. It was an all business kind of video! Plus, at over an hour long, I am not sure I could have even scrapped for bonus footage. I hope everyone enjoyed it though!

Remember the good old days, when you were excited to check the mail and hear from a friend via stamped letter?

This Week On YouTube

The guys had only been on the boat for a few hours when Levi texted me from his Garmin In-Reach, "Officially passed on a spike fork."

I smiled from ear to ear. He didn't want another spike fork but the lure of more meat in the freezer is tempting. We pay for messages on his GPS system but I wanted him to know of my approval so I typed back a simple, "YAY".

With half of Bob's moose AND half of Bob's bear (to be made into sausages soon) AND all of our dipnetting salmon, we could take the risk of passing on small moose. I wanted Levi to pass on the small moose!

He has worked so hard hunting, he deserved to take his time looking for something bigger. Something that you look up at on the wall and the memories come flooding back. Like the elk and deer on our walls from Colorado. I could tell you each story like it happened yesterday.

I am so grateful that the guys got to add a story to the wall in this week's video! It was a long one, but a good one!

What's Coming Up?

We DID film moose processing BUT it will come in a future video. I was editing this week's film and asked Levi if we should scoot the butcher days to another week. Before I started my second watch (where I cut back the excess) I had an hour and 20 minutes of film edited! And frankly, I could have had a lot more.

Levi was under strict instructions to film A LOT while they hunted. I wanted shots of hunting camp, coffee, cooking, tree stands. He did it all plus some! We had some awesome footage from hunting days where they didn't see a single moose and unfortunately it couldn't all make the cut.

He pondered the notion of stretching out this moose saga and we decided it was for the best. In order to keep the full integrity of the hunting video, we're doing a second one for processing!

To add to that video, we are going to film processing Bob's frozen bear meat into sausages! The moose took 3 full days to finish so we didn't film quite as heavily as I would have liked. So, we plan to film the bear with more detail!

Also, as soon as I am done typing up this email, we are going to head outside and pull our potatoes from the garden! Levi is going to build me a new raised bed for fall garlic planting and we will address the garden expansion. Keep your eyes peeled for the great garden harvest of 2026 soon!

Snail Mail Club UPDATES

October Snail Mail is ON THE WAY to 95 pen pals this month! We cannot believe how many people have loved it so far and are so excited to keep it going.

I was actually up late last night typing up my letter for November already. The story about me almost cancelling our move to Alaska.

Speaking of November..

We are meeting with a local printer this week and if all goes well, we will be able to OPEN the Snail Mail memberships! No limits! At least, that is the goal!

The thing is, when I order through an online printer I have to wait weeks to get the postcards and everything in, so I have to cap the membership number. Then I get stressed about filling my spots so that I don't waste money on way too many postcards.

If I can work with a local printer, I can send over the files and the number I need, pack the envelopes, drop them in the mail! Once a month, one and done! 115 members? No problem! My online orders go in increments of 25, 50, 100, 250! Not super ideal for small growth like ours.

Anyway, now that you know how all of that works, wish me luck with the printer! They have been incredible over the phone and email thus far so hopefully we love what they print for us.

I will be posting as soon as I confirm if opening up memberships for EVERYONE will work for us!

In the meantime, check out how awesome October's Envelope turned out:

We have gotten so many kind messages, emails, and comments lately.

My main goal with these emails has been to connect further with our viewers and grow a community. It certainly feels like we've done just that!

Thank you so much for being here!

Sincerely,

Becca

October 2026 Newsletter Updates From The Homestead I want to do this monthly newsletter a bit differently.. You see, I go to type these newsletters up and struggle to remember everything I intended to fill you in on. A LOT happens here in a month. I also enjoy the monthly updates, I think weekly can be a little too much. Monthly emails give something to look forward to in my opinion. This month, I want to try and pop back into my email and update the story as time goes on. Like a date-stamped...
